WCDMA Common Pilot Power Control with Cost Function Minimization

چکیده
This paper validates the feasibility of automating the setting of common pilot power in a WCDMA radio network. The pilot automation improves operability of the network and it is implemented with control software aiming for load balancing while also assuring pilot coverage. The pilot power of a cell is periodically updated with a gradient descent method that minimizes a cost function. The cost function describes differences in load between the cell and neighboring cells and pilot coverage that terminals of the cell measure. The approach was validated using a dynamic WCDMA system simulator with a deployment of macro and micro cells on a city region whose measured propagation characteristics were incorporated into the model. The results showed that the proposed control method slightly improved the air interface performance measured as a function of packet throughput.

The paper validates the feasibility of automating the setting of common pilot power in a WCDMA radio network. The pilot automation improves operability of the network and it is implemented with a control software aiming for load and coverage balancing. The control applies measurements of base station total transmission power of neighboring cells and terminal reports of received pilot signal lev...
متن کاملAdaptive Channel Estimation Exploiting Pilot Diversity with SINR Estimation for WCDMA Downlink Receivers
This paper, addresses the issue of channel phaser estimation in WCDMA, in which both the Common Pilot Channel (CPICH), which is not power controlled, and the Dedicated Physical Control Channel (DPCCH), having pilot symbols with power control, are available. Depending on the user’s location, either the CPICH or DPCCH may have better SINR and hence, yield more reliable channel estimates. The prop...
متن کاملOptimization of Pilot Power for Service Coverage and Smooth Handover in WCDMA Networks
In WCDMA networks, the presence of a cell is announced through a common pilot channel (CPICH). The power levels of the pilot channels have a great impact on coverage and service quality. Using mathematical optimization techniques, we address the problem of minimizing the amount of pilot power for providing service coverage and smooth handover. We present numerical results for several realistic ...

Abstract The receiver performance of DS-CDMA systems is significantly affected by the accuracy of channel estimate. In WCDMA downlink systems, the channel information can be estimated using a common pilot channel (CPICH). Since this pilot signal is transmitted to all users in the cell with constant power, we consider the improvement of channel estimate by additionally using power-controlled dat...
متن کاملCPICH power optimisation by means of simulated annealing in an UTRA-FDD environment - Electronics Letters
Introduction: Because of the use of rake receivers and the introduction of a soft handover scheme in UTRA-FDD, there are areas of operation in which user equipments (UE) are connected to a group of base stations (BS) known as the ‘active set’ (AS). Since the network orders the UE to add a BS to its AS according to quality measurements made on the primary scrambling code of the common pilot chan...
